Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ranichauri
Extension Brief
Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Tehri Garhwal, located at the Ranichauri Campus of VCSG UUHF, Uttarakhand, is one of the pioneering Farm Science Centres in the country and the first KVK established in Uttarakhand. ICAR records indicate that the KVK was sanctioned/established in 1983, while its actual functioning commenced in 1984. The KVK was established to provide location-specific agricultural extension, technology assessment, demonstration and capacity-building services to farming communities in the difficult hill agro-ecosystems of Tehri Garhwal. Its operational area encompasses the district of Tehri Garhwal, and its multidisciplinary activities cover agriculture, horticulture, soil science, agroforestry, animal husbandry, plant protection, home science and allied enterprises. The KVK plays an important role as a Knowledge and Resource Centre, facilitating on-farm testing, frontline demonstrations, farmer and rural-youth training, production of quality planting material and dissemination of improved technologies for enhancing farm productivity, profitability, sustainability and livelihood security. Following the establishment of VCSG Uttarakhand University of Horticulture and Forestry in 2011, the administrative control of KVK Ranichauri was transferred from GBPUAT to the VCSG UUHF, Bharsar.
